The UNCST Executive Secretary Dr. Peter Ndemere met the World Bank's Operations Advisor on Human Development responsible for the African Region, Dr. Tawhid Nawaz who is in the country.

Dr. Nawaz who is responsible for coordinating numerous activities of various departments of the Human Development Network and other key units within the World Bank, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Ndemere at the UNCST Offices in Ntinda, Kampala on 8th December 2011.

In the past, Dr. Tawhid was Team Leader of the quality enhancement function of the central Health, Nutrition and Population Department and also Team Leader of the India Health, Nutrition and Population program - the largest health program at the Bank. In this function, he was in charge of the development of World Bank supported health systems operations at the state level in India. Dr. Nawaz holds a Ph.D in Economics from Georgetown University and a Master's degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

The meeting focused mainly on developments, sustainability and scalling up of Uganda's strategic science, technology and innovation programmes.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Sukhdeep Brar, World Bank's Senior Education Specialist, and senior members of UNCST.
