Hon Elioda, Amb. Malac Discuss STI Partnership
The U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Ms. Deborah Malac has expressed commitment to collaborate with the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MoSTI) in areas of common interest – agriculture, health, environment and climate change. This was during a courtesy call on Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye the Minister of STI at the ministry headquarters in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.
“We are excited to see the attention the government is giving to innovation. How we harness innovation is crucial. How we get products out of the laboratory into the marketplace is also critical. We are therefore looking for ways in which to collaborate, figuring out how and where will be helpful.” Ms. Malac said.

The minister thanked the U.S. government for always supporting government programmes and proclaimed the STI ministry’s paradigm will require working with development partners in the run to the middle-income status aspiration by 2020.
“The ministry intends on using science and technology to address challenges like disease, hunger, disasters, and poverty through employment creation for the young people. Uganda is heavily endowed with biodiversity; this will necessitate us investing in material and marine sciences, Nanotechnology and other emerging technologies.” Said Hon. Elioda
