NEW PROCEDURES ON RESEARCH REGISTRATION AND CLEARANCE DURING THE CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19) PANDEMIC
Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) would like to inform you that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the following new procedures have been made on research registration and clearance by UNCST.
Use of the online research application portal: All new/initial research permit applications should be made through the online portal at http://research.uncst.go.ug, instead of the hard copy delivery of documents to UNCST. Researchers with continuing studies whose initial research permit application had not been made online should use the same portal to submit their Research Material Transfer requests, progress reports notification, requests for extension and notification of amendments.
Halting of recruitment of study participants. All researchers are encouraged to suspend recruitment of new study participants because of the additional risks the clinical teams and patients at the hospitals, recruitment facilities, and sites are likely to face. Participants already recruited and require to follow up should not be invited to hospitals or recruitment sites, but rather use telephone call based follow up to complete follow up procedures. Study teams are also encouraged to provide research participants with enough supplies during this quarantine period.
